Dive into the world of cheer! This program serves as an introduction to cheerleading. Cheerleaders will learn all the basic skills needed to participate on a team. They will practice the essentials of cheerleading with the exception of stunting.

We run an instructional league, emphasizing teaching opportunities, teamwork and fun over competition. Prior experience is optional, but spirit is required!


  • Dates: Early June - Mid-July (may close earlier if teams are filled)
  • Ages: 5 - 10 (by start of season)

  • Fee: Covers registration and uniform.
    • LRPRA members: $70
    • Non-members: $80

Registration can be emailed to with card payment (3% convenience fee) made over the phone to (703) 491-2154, or form and check/money order payment dropped off in the Office drop box (12350 Oakwood Drive) or mailed to Recreation.

Late registrations not accepted. |  No team requests. | Refunds and changes will not be granted once registration has closed.

Tennis shoes and athletic pants or shorts are required.

Shirt and poms provided. First Aid supplies are kept in the field storage bin located on site for athletes to use when needed.



Practices and games take place on Saturdays onlyThe season runs from mid August to early October for a total of 9 weeks-- the first 3 Saturdays are practices and the following 6 Saturdays are performances.

The youngest age group that we will be cheering for (5-8) plays first each week, with the first team starting at 9:00am, followed by the older age groups-- the day normally wraps up around 5:00pm depending on how many participants sign up. Each game is 50 minutes long, with a 10-minute buffer between games for the previous 2 teams to clear out and the next 2 teams to set up. A detailed schedule for your team's specific practice and game times will be created and emailed out to parents at least 2 weeks before the start of the season.

Since the weather is always changing, the Rain-Out Line is your best tool to check cancellation status. It will be updated at 8:15am before practices/games start for the day if there are any changes. Please listen to the date of the message to ensure it is not an old recording, and save the number in your phone to reference for both swim lessons and youth leagues.

With safety, fairness and field preservation as our priorities, we do our best to follow the same schedule for the day for all teams, but if morning practices/games run and weather worsens significantly later in the day, check the Rain-Out Line 45 minutes before your practice/game to ensure it is still running.

While rained out practices are not made up, rained out games will be added on at the end of the season. The Rain-Out Line will reflect updated make-up information as needed.
